Challenging Accessibility Assumptions: Screen Readers
Perspectives for Management

Intro to accessibility from a manager’s perspective! Focusing on screen readers, learn where accessibility fits in the project life cycle.
February 22, 2021 · 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM CT
Developers are primarily responsible for accessibility, right? A screen reader user doesn’t need a keyboard, right? Testing with JAWS is enough, right? Wrong, wrong and wrong. These types of assumptions about accessibility are project assassins, especially if they are yours and you’re the manager.
If you don’t understand accessibility and how it affects your project, you’re setting the stage for budget overruns, missed deadlines and unfulfilled requirements. Challenge your assumptions and learn how role-based accessibility can lead to more efficient and effective projects!
With a focus on screen readers, learn where accessibility fits into the project life cycle and when, as well as who is responsible for accessibility decisions. You’ll also learn:
- How screen readers work in conjunction with other assistive technologies
- What resources your team needs to build and test
- Why people use screen readers
- Which web trends present accessibility challenges for screen reader users
Read our recent A Brief History of Screen Readers post to get a head start on learning.
